Part of the figural series of candlesticks designed by Bjorn Wiinblad in the late 1960's early 1970s. This is the woman from the series and she has the distinctive two tone blue black coloring and the characteristic large hat. This is one of his rare art studio pieces that was produced in the 1970's and shows Wiinblad at his best. This piece is stamped to the base and is in excellent condition.
Bjorn Wiinblad, born in 1919, he started working for Rosenthal in 1957 and has won many prestigious awards. Wiinblad recently passed away in June 2006,his pieces are highly collectible. The designs of Wiinblad exemplify Danish charm and wit. His ceramic figurines, plates, bowls, vases and candlesticks show stylistic characters.
